FUZZY ECONOMIC REVIEW

The political dynamics of the European Project

The formation of the European Project is a well established event on the inter-national political horizon. However, its enlargement accommodating additional member States has made it more com-plex, and fundamental questions about its future development have been rai-sed. The creation of an entry point for a European Variable Geometry (EVG)…

DISCOUNT RATES FOR STARTUPS: THE ENTREPRENEUR’S PERSPECTIVE

So far, the estimation of required returns (discount rates) for non-diversified entrepreneurs has remained a mystery. Mongrut and Ramirez (2006) made a contribution to this area by deriving the required return’s lower bound for a non-diversified entrepreneur. However, they used a quadratic utility function, which is the same as the…

Fuzzy methods incorporated to the study of personal insurances

The price of the individual life insurance depends on the insurer's age and the technical interest rate. The first is a random variable and its perfomance is determinated by a mortality law. The second variable tradicionally has been considered a certain parameter in spite of being an uncertain variable. The…

The selection of an entry mode strategy into foreign markets under conditions of environmental uncertainty: a new approach to the market analysis using a spreadsheet to process quantitative fuzzy data

ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to offer managers an innovative and efficient methodology of analysis by which they can gain a more realistic perception of the environment. Hence decision making related to the selection of entry strategies will be done based on more reliable information. In order to achieve this objective, the authors consider it is relevant to set this model of analysis within the background of the internationalization process. A practical case of study is included to demonstrate the major advantages of this model.

An approach to the problem of portfolio selection

ABSTRACT In this study we attempt to model a classical problem in the literature of finance, giving a different meaning to the notion of risk. When selecting portfolios, as in all decision making processes, risk is a determining factor and it is included in classical models using statistical parameters. Our aim is to formulate a model which enables a portfolio to be created which is satisfactory for an individual who is prepared to assume a certain level of risk and which we shall approach using fuzzy set theory.

On employment of fuzzy sets theory for solving the problem of providing for information security

ABSTRACT Possibilities for employment of fuzzy sets theory apparatus for solving problems of providing for information security are considered. The initial points for information security in information systems are specified. The following sequence of description is put forward in order to provide for a clear description and information process and the problem of its security (general principles): elementary model of an object of protection (bank); a study of information system vulnerability (Dempster-Shafer approach); variants for approaching evaluation of effectiveness in a security system; possibilities for decision making and choosing strategies of behavior; choosing methods of active defense. Both peculiarities of…

Fuzzy measure for similarity of numerical vectors

ABSTRACT In this paper we describe a method for Fuzzy Measure for Similarity of Numerical Vectors (FMSNV) in order to compare and measure behavior of numerical vectors based on fuzzy methodology. Each numerical vector is treated as a fuzzy set and the method described here is designed to find similarity in behavior of two or more vectors. The method is capable of comparing not only pairs of vectors, but also to compare behavior of one variable (vector) to a group of explanatory variables (vectors), similarly to the modeling performed with the help of econometric methods. In those cases, where the…

A fuzzy multiple attribute decision proposal for evaluating environmental plans

ABSTRACT In this paper it is used a fuzzy multiple attribute analysis as a help instrument to the decision-making process in an environment of lack of precise information as it generally is the decision-making in public projects. Through an application to the selection of proceeding programs of the Environmental Plan of Andalusia, 1995-2000, it will be evaluated the suitability of some evaluation and arrangement of alternatives methods. We have deduced, according to the obtained results, that the usage of triangular fuzzy numbers and fuzzy arithmetic, using different a-cuts if necessary, gives good results for the goals we were looking for.
